How to Install ML2 Bootloader on a USB Drive
ML2 bootloader is a modified version of Chameleon bootloader that allows you to boot Mac OS X Mountain Lion from a USB drive. It is useful for installing or testing Mac OS X on a PC without modifying the hard drive. In this article, I will show you how to create a bootable USB drive with ML2 bootloader using Windows.
What You Need
A USB drive with at least 8 GB of space.
A Windows PC with an internet connection.
A copy of iATKOS ML2 image file. You can download it from here.
A copy of ML2 bootloader installer package. You can download it from here.
A software to extract files from ISO images. I recommend 7-Zip.
A software to write files to USB drives. I recommend Win32 Disk Imager.
Step 1: Format the USB Drive
Plug in your USB drive to your Windows PC and open Disk Management. You can do this by right-clicking on the Start button and selecting Disk Management. Alternatively, you can press Windows + R and type diskmgmt.msc and press Enter.

In Disk Management, locate your USB drive and right-click on it. Select Format and choose FAT32 as the file system. You can also assign a volume label if you want. Click OK to start formatting.
Step 2: Extract the iATKOS ML2 Image File
Open 7-Zip and locate the iATKOS ML2 image file that you downloaded. Right-click on it and select 7-Zip > Extract Here. This will create a folder with the same name as the image file.
Step 3: Write the iATKOS ML2 Image File to the USB Drive
Open Win32 Disk Imager and click on the folder icon next to the Image File box. Browse to the folder where you extracted the iATKOS ML2 image file and select it. Make sure that the Device box shows your USB drive letter. Click on Write and confirm to start writing the image file to the USB drive. This may take some time depending on the speed of your USB drive.
Step 4: Install the ML2 Bootloader to the USB Drive
Open the ML2 bootloader installer package that you downloaded and run it. Follow the instructions and select your USB drive as the destination. Click on Install and wait for it to finish.
Step 5: Boot from the USB Drive
Eject your USB drive from your Windows PC and plug it into the PC where you want to install or test Mac OS X. Turn on the PC and press F12 or another key to enter the boot menu. Select your USB drive as the boot device and press Enter.
You should see the ML2 bootloader screen with a list of options. Use the arrow keys to select iATKOS ML2 and press Enter. You should see the Apple logo and a loading bar. Wait for it to load and you should see the Mac OS X installer screen.
Congratulations! You have successfully created a bootable USB drive with ML2 bootloader. You can now proceed with installing or testing Mac OS X Mountain Lion on your PC. 0efd9a6b88
