How to Repair a Philco TV PH21M SS

How to Repair a Philco TV PH21M SS

If you have a Philco TV PH21M SS that is not working properly, you may be able to fix it yourself by following some simple steps. In this article, we will show you how to troubleshoot and repair some common problems with this TV model, such as no power, no picture, no sound, or distorted image. You will need some basic tools and skills, as well as the schematic diagram of the TV circuit board. You can download the schematic diagram from this link [^1^].

Step 1: Check the Power Supply

The first thing you need to do is to check if the TV is getting power from the outlet. Plug the TV cord into a different outlet and see if it turns on. If it does not, then you may have a problem with the cord or the plug. You can test the cord with a multimeter or replace it with a new one. If the cord is fine, then you may have a problem with the power supply board inside the TV. You will need to open the TV case and locate the power supply board. It is the board that has a large transformer (T801) and a capacitor (C803) on it. You can see it on the schematic diagram as shown below:

You will need to check if there is any visible damage on the board, such as burnt components, cracked solder joints, or bulging capacitors. If you find any, you will need to replace them with new ones. You can also check if there are any short circuits or open circuits on the board by using a multimeter. You can measure the voltage and resistance across different points on the board and compare them with the values on the schematic diagram. For example, you can measure the voltage across C803 and see if it is around 220V DC. If it is not, then you may have a problem with the rectifier diode (D301) or the fuse (F801). You can also measure the resistance across T801 and see if it is around 0.5 ohms. If it is not, then you may have a problem with the transformer or the switching transistor (Q801). You can replace any faulty components with new ones that have the same specifications.

Step 2: Check the Horizontal Output Stage

If the power supply board is working fine, then you may have a problem with the horizontal output stage. This is the stage that generates the high voltage for the picture tube (CINESCOPIO) and drives the horizontal deflection coil (L451). It consists of a flyback transformer (T402), a horizontal output transistor (Q401), and some other components. You can see it on the schematic diagram as shown below:

You will need to check if there is any visible damage on this stage, such as burnt components, cracked solder joints, or arcing sparks. If you find any, you will need to replace them with new ones. You can also check if there are any short circuits or open circuits on this stage by using a multimeter. You can measure the voltage and resistance across different points on this stage and compare them with the values on the schematic diagram. For example, you can measure 0efd9a6b88
